LMIA FAQ
- Is CanEdEm an accredited Immigration Office?
Response: CanEdEm is a referral service that works with accredited Immigration Officers. CanEdEm does not do any recruiting or placement work. It is simply a matchmaker between recruiters and companies.
- Do the foreign workers speak English?
Response: You can be clear in your application the level of English you require your hires to have. For PSW positions, the applicants are typically foreign trained medical professionals (doctors, nurses, etc.) who are fluent in English. For farm workers, they may have basic English. - Do I have a say in who I hire?
Response: Yes. You get to interview all the applicants and have the final say in selection. You will be involved in every step of the hiring process to ensure that you are happy with your hires. - What if the hire doesn’t work out?
Response: These workers are highly motivated to stay in Canada and work for you. That being said, you have no obligation to keep the hire if they are not working out. In the event that a hire is not compatible with your workplace, you can relieve the hire of their position and the hire will go back to their home country. - How many people can I hire?
Response: The number of hires permitted through LMIA depends on your organization’s LMIA application. Specific criteria can be found here. - Is there a cost to take part in this initiative?
Response: There is zero cost to you to fill in a LMIA application. There are nominal immigration company service fees and government processing fees you will be responsible for, if you are eligible to hire FTW through an LMIA. - What are the employment expectations for the people who will be hired through this initiative (LMIA)?
Response: Your hires must work for your organization full time (37.5 hours/week). - What if I want to hire more workers through this initiative?
Response: Your organization’s LMIA application is what indicates the number of hires your company is permitted to bring into Canada. As your business grows, we can re-do your LMIA and re-assess to increase the numbers, when possible/needed. - What if I want more information / am ready to get started?
